Home care in The Kingsway
The Kingsway is Tudor and Georgian housing on generous lots near the Humber River — and the river valley setting means a lot of homes sit above or below their own street.
The houses here are the problem
Two- and three-storey Tudor Revival and Georgian homes from the 1920s and 30s, many with a half-flight from the sidewalk to the front door and a further set inside. Bedrooms and full bathrooms are upstairs; laundry is almost always in the basement. Homes closer to the valley have sloped drives and garden steps that become genuinely hazardous in winter.
How care usually starts in The Kingsway
Drawn from real cases in this area. Details are generalized and nothing identifying is included — we do not publish information about the people we care for.
Three floors and a basement laundry
The single most common Kingsway problem. Care built around mornings and evenings usually keeps the house workable.
Winter on a sloped drive near the valley
A seasonal pattern here. Families often arrange care through the winter and reassess in spring.
Home from St. Joseph’s after a fall
Same-day cover for the first week, typically six hours daily, then reduced as steadiness returns.
What this looks like in practice
Most families in The Kingsway start with four to eight hours of care a day. Care usually begins within a day of the first call, and the same day where someone is coming out of hospital — locally that is most often St. Joseph’s Health Centre under Unity Health Toronto, Etobicoke General under William Osler, or Humber River Hospital.
We support people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, ALS, paraplegia and reduced mobility, and older adults who simply need help to manage the day. In almost every case, the outcome is the same: the person stays in their own home and receives their care there.
Streets and pockets we cover in The Kingsway
The Kingsway, Kingsway Park, Old Mill, Humber Valley Village, Thorncrest Village and the streets around Bloor Street West, Prince Edward Drive and Royal York Road. Caregivers travel to the home, so care can begin where your parent already lives.

Private nursing, PSW and live-in care in the Kingsway
Families in the Kingsway who arrange private care usually want more than a rota of visits. The three things we are asked for most often here are a private nurse at home, a named personal support worker (PSW) who comes every time rather than whoever is free, and a live-in caregiver where someone should not be alone overnight.
Private nursing at home
Registered nurses and registered practical nurses for wound care, catheter and ostomy support, injections, IV therapy, medication administration and clinical assessment. Registration is confirmed directly with the College of Nurses of Ontario before anyone is assigned. Administering medication is a controlled act in Ontario, so it is a nurse who does it — a support worker prompts and observes.
Personal support workers
A personal support worker — PSW — handles bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence support, transfers and mobility, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry and escorts to appointments. Certification is verified before assignment, and a police vulnerable sector check is required.
Live-in and 24-hour care
A live-in caregiver stays in the home and sleeps, available if needed — suitable where someone genuinely sleeps through. Where the nights are active, 24-hour care puts caregivers in rotation so someone is awake at every hour. We will tell you which one fits what you describe, even when it is the more expensive answer.
Discretion
Our people arrive in ordinary clothes unless you ask otherwise, park where you tell them to, and do not discuss your household. What happens in your home stays there — see our privacy policy.
For elderly care that changes as needs change — companionship and homecare at a few hours a week, through to full assisted living support at home — the arrangement is reviewed rather than left to drift. There is no charge for the consultation and no long-term contract.
