Questions and answers

When are your services available?

We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. Call or email at any time and a member of our team will get back to you.

How soon can care start?

It depends on the area and the hours you need. Urgent situations, particularly hospital discharges, move fastest. Tell us your date on the first call and we will give you a straight answer rather than an optimistic one.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The phone consultation is free, and there is no obligation to book care afterwards.

Are all of your staff nurses?

No, and most clients do not need one. Our team includes Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Personal Support Workers and health care aides, plus physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, dietitians, respiratory therapists and social workers. We match the role to the task so you are not paying for a level of care you do not need.

Is your staff insured?

Yes. Help Now Healthcare carries professional and general liability insurance, and our caregivers are our employees, covered by WSIB.

What checks are done before someone comes to my home?

A police vulnerable sector check, verification of credentials directly with the relevant Ontario college where the role is regulated, checked references and current immunization records — all completed before a first shift.

Do I get to choose who looks after me?

You meet your caregiver, and if the match is not working we will reassign someone else. Asking for a different caregiver is a normal request, not a complaint.

Will it be the same person every visit?

That is what we aim for. We build a small team around each client and keep it stable. When a regular caregiver is away, whoever covers has been briefed on the care plan and, where possible, has met the client before.

Is the cost covered by my health plan?

Some of it may be, depending on your coverage and the services required. You will need to check the details with your plan provider. We can give you an itemized description of services to submit.

Can we start with only a few hours a week?

Yes, and many clients do. Starting small and adding hours later works better than starting big — for the person receiving care and for the budget.

Do you provide overnight or 24-hour care?

Yes, including overnight, live-in style arrangements and full 24-hour coverage.

Can you help right after a hospital stay?

Yes. We can meet the hospital discharge team so their plan carries into ours without a gap. Short-term post-hospital support is one of the most common reasons families call.

Do you work with publicly funded home care?

Yes. Many clients receive funded hours through Ontario Health atHome and top them up with us for evenings, overnights and weekends. If publicly funded care would serve you better on its own, we will tell you.

What areas do you cover?

Our largest footprint is Ontario, where we serve communities right across the province. For facility staffing we take requests from organizations across Canada and the United States.

How do you handle personal and health information?

It is collected and used only to arrange and deliver care, and handled in line with Canadian privacy law. You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.

What if I need to cancel or change the hours?

Tell us. More hours, fewer hours, a different schedule — we change it. There are no notice periods designed to trap you.

Do you staff facilities as well as homes?

Yes. We supply screened RNs, RPNs, PSWs and allied health professionals to hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes, clinics and community agencies, for planned shifts, sick calls and short-notice gaps.
